Vision & Values

The IKL aims to become a go-to hub for engaged research with and for Indigenous Peoples in Australia. It is committed to generating alternative data and evidence for advocacy, activism, influence, and change. It is distinguished by responsible, ethical, respectful, and accountable practices of thinking, analysis, and action.
Vision & Values

IKL has 8 VALUES guiding the thinking and action of its members.

Indigenous Peoples-centred

We place Indigenous Peoples at the center of what we do – integrating research, advocacy, activism, learning, empowerment, and policy.

Justice

We strive for justice in which Indigenous Peoples have a fair opportunity to say and do. We also promote equity and justice in the wider world in our commitment to disadvantaged and marginalised communities.

Participation

We seek the participation of all people for understanding problems and generating innovative solutions in the global context of the diversity of cultures.

Respect

We respect people of all cultural backgrounds and embrace cultural diversity as a key strength.

Recognition

We demand recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ sovereignty, agency, and freedom.

Integrity

We encourage open discussion and constructive debate; and we practice our specialty with honesty, openness, and integrity. We exercise candor with our stakeholders.

Partnership

We partner with Indigenous Peoples, non-Indigenous communities, businesses, governments, and educational institutions globally who share our ethos to achieve our goals.

Accountability

We do what we say we do, and we strive for accountability in all matters that involve Indigenous Peoples.
