Welcome to Indigenous Knowledge Lab ('IKL')
Indigenous Knowledge Lab is a platform designed to conduct research, advocacy, and promote the empowerment of Indigenous Peoples globally.
IKL is a not-for-profit organisation. It is run by member volunteers.
IKL was founded on the belief that Indigenous Peoples have maintained enduring relationships with nature. However, their connections and ways of managing their territories, have been crushed due to the legacy of colonisation, marginalisation, injustices, and discrimination. As a result, many Indigenous Peoples have experienced dispossession of land, forced displacements, loss of autonomy, political oppression, and the dismantling of their relationships with nature. Yet, the modern world is not as arrogantly dismissive of Indigenous Peoples, including their knowledge and cosmologies as it was in the past. This opens opportunities for constructive, progressive and respectful dialogue enabling the sharing practical solutions between indigenous and modern ontologies.
IKL recognises the ongoing and heightened emphasis on developing new conceptual, policy and practical measures, that are not token invitations to Indigenous Peoples to join committees and boards. But rather, a transformation of narratives and structures of political decision-making towards self-determined, indigenous-led applications of Indigenous knowledge to sustain our environments.
IKL creates opportunities for Indigenous peoples to participate in research, employment, public platforms, and the community. Thus, enabling the Indigenous populace to benefit from their intellectual property being developed within the IKL.
We encourage you to explore IKL’s website and find out more about what we do.
