Energising Indigenous Agency (EIA)

Principles

The IKL believes in re-energising the capability and agency of Indigenous Peoples to influence policy discourse and change in the neo-colonial context. Our basic premise is that Indigenous agency is vital but has not been as effectively engaged or understood as it could be in connecting with non-indigenous communities, partners, and stakeholders.

Re-vitalised Indigenous agency is important for advocacy, activism, impact, reach and sustainability of our projects. We will support developing and implementing activities in Indigenous communities that focus on identifying existing agency and building on the capacity of communities to learn knowledge, skills, and attitudes through enhanced capacity of leaders. Improved agency is about thinking differently and doing differently in the interest of Indigenous Peoples and marginalised communities.

Through these programs, IKL aspires to build on and strengthen the skills and abilities of Indigenous Peoples to influence others more effectively.
