Principles of IKL Advocacy

Principles

Our advocacy is informed by the following principles:

  • We value the lived experience of Indigenous peoples that we work with.
  • We believe in nurturing Indigenous champions and talents.
  • We work for the rights of all Indigenous peoples, with a specific focus on Indigenous women, young women, and girls in diversity.
  • We use intersectional feminist analysis – always questioning whether a policy or program have a different effect on Indigenous women and girls?
  • We promote the leadership of Indigenous peoples, Indigenous women, young women, and girls.
  • We value diversity and work to eliminate racism and all forms of prejudice.
  • We support reconciliation.
  • We collaborate with others to create regional and international change.
  • We value an independent, non-partisan voice.
